Email Marketing Is Bulk Email Marketing

By Luis Galarza - Internet Marketing Tips.

Email Marketing Is Traditionally Known As Bulk Email Marketing! Who Will Said Such A Thing?

I know who... Yesterday I post an article titled "Email Marketing Click Through Rate Puts Restaurant On Top". This blog post talks about the studies made on 2006 to see what business category gets the highest email open and click-through rate. And today I check, and there was a comment talking about some things I haven't heard since 1999, or from people who are complete newbies about email and the web in general.

He said that email marketing is known as bulk email marketing, personally I think he didn't understood my last post, so I decide to answer him here, because I don't want Internet marketing beginners to believe such a thing.

First I think you got a little bit confuse about the definition of email marketing, which is a way to build strong long term relationships with prospects and customers which have the goal of turning leads into buyers, and buyers into loyal customers.

My Answer.

It is true the email marketing strategy where companies let employees use their company's email to communicate with friends and family creates a type of on file viral marketing, but is completely off target marketing. Which mean lower click through rates, lower web conversions, and less profits.

The best way to use good email marketing methods is by building your own list of highly targeted leads to start your relationship communication process or sending solo email ads to a niche online newsletter or ezine, to help you gain sales or opt-ins for your list.

Bulk email marketing when it was legal it worked very, well I may add... Now is called SPAM, which is completely illegal, and I recommend everyone to stay far away from any type of spam methods. This is one of the top email marketing mistake your need to avoid.

The reason why he maybe refer to regular email marketing as a bulk strategy is because his trying to promote a software that helps online small businesses to generate email accounts for their employees as a promotion method. I think is OK to pre-sell or cross-promote your product or service with blog comments, but try to provide useful tips and don't trash a real strategy, name, or site.

It was me who posted yesterday and maybe we can agree to disagree? email marketing is today known as bulk/mass email - these emails are often sent from "do-not-reply" and is ONE message to many recipients.
Targeted: sure it can be targeted to demographic groups, no doubt. There's also no doubt it works or companies would not be doing it. I would argue that a one-on-one email to an existing customer, prospect or friend is much more targeted based on the fact that it a personal email between people who know each other.
What WrapMail does is NOT mass email and it is not new email accounts - it is basically connecing the outgoing email with the website and turning every external email sent by employees into a marketing piece for the senders company. We have a College as a client who has about 100K email users - using WrapMail they get a few hundred thousand impressions of their brand and offerings just by wrapping these emails that are being sent anyway.
In conclusion: I think both methods work, we've just taken a fresh approach.
I would be more than happy to discuss and show this in more detail if you're interested.
